We realize
that interviewing can be very stressful,
but it doesn’t need to be. The key
is being prepared! Try the following:
Do your homework!! Research
the company, prepare questions for the interview,
be prepared with answers to common questions,
confirm the date and time of the interview,
make sure you know how to get there. If
time permits, drive by the office the day
before the interview.
Grooming! Most of these
should go without saying but……Shower,
comb or pull back your hair in a conservative
style, trim hair if needed, shave if appropriate,
make sure your breath smells minty fresh,
wear clean clothes that have been pressed
or ironed.
Be prepared! Take a minimum
of three copies of your resume and references
in a folder or report cover. Make sure the
paper is of high quality and that they have
been freshly printed, not wrinkled or smelling
of smoke. Take a legal pad and 2 pens, along
with a calculator if necessary. Take this
in a folder if possible. Bring work samples
and two pieces of identification.
Dress for Success! First
impressions are lasting impressions. Even
if the company doesn’t require a suit,
wear one on your interview. You only get
one chance. Dress professionally and ask
yourself if you would hire someone that
is wearing what you have on.
Arrive on Time- Arrive
early enough to stop in the restroom and
touch up your hair, lipstick, and go to
the bathroom. Some interviews last awhile.
We suggest arriving 10-15minutes early in
case you need to complete an application
first. DO NOT arrive so early that you’re
loitering around the reception area. If
you get there early, wait down in the lobby
or outside until appropriate.
Introductions- Look the
interviewer in the eye, give a firm handshake,
remember the interviewer’s name, and
smile!
Ending the interview –
Be as cordial and energetic on the way out
as on the way in. If you’re interested
in the position tell them, and express your
enthusiasm. Say thank you! Say good-bye
to anyone else you may have met and remembering
their names helps score points. Follow up
with a thank-you note, mailed the next day.
