The Sofia Medical University was established in 1917 as a part of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohrid”. In 1925, it published “Premedicus”, one of the first magazines for medical students worldwide. After World War II, the faculty separated from the rest of the university and became a medical college, offering both medicine and dentistry programs. The School of Pharmacy was established in 1951, and through various administrative reforms, the college became a medical university in 1995. It soon received international accreditation. Today, Sofia Medical University is renowned for its significant role in academic and educational culture in the Balkan region and Europe. Currently, around 6,200 students are engaged in research and contribute to internationally recognized scientific work.
