The University of Thessaly was founded in 1984 and elected the first Rectorate Board in 1998. Its administrative and academic center is in the city of Volos. In order to serve the needs of the region of Thessaly, its first Departments were based on agricultural, educational and technological sciences. It is known for its excellent research performance and outstanding scientific achievements, in accordance with international standards. The excellent equipped Laboratories of the different Departments and Research Units have a number of well-trained researchers to support them. The University of Thessaly, which consists of 37 Departments and 8 schools, is the third largest university in Greece. It has its own unique identity and holds a significant position in our national education system. The University of Thessaly offers a total of 105 undergraduate and postgraduate programs, as well as additional modules in specific research and business fields. This university aims to cater to a wide range of individuals and ensure that its offerings are accessible to most people.
The University of Thessaly is a public university in Thessaly, Greece that was established in 1984. It has a main campus in the city of Volos and additional campuses in Karditsa, Larissa, Trikala, and Lamia. While the central administrative and academic building is often referred to as the main campus, the university actually has multiple sites spread across the wider region of Volos. In the fall of 2014, the university had 14,000 undergraduate students, 2,150 master's degree students, 1,400 doctoral students, and 710 faculty members. The primary language of instruction is Greek, but there are also programs and courses available in English, French, German, and Italian for international students. The university consists of eight faculties, each with various departments offering undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs.

Hostel Facilities
Accommodation: Eligible students in the city of Volos can receive affordable accommodation at the Student Residence Hall, based on their financial criteria. Additionally, undergraduate foreign students from non-EU countries are eligible for a monthly accommodation grant of 100 €. Greek students and students from EU member countries can also receive an annual accommodation grant of 1000 €, based on their academic and financial criteria.
Sports Club: The goal of the PEO is to motivate students at the University of Thessaly to engage in sports activities, promoting physical fitness and overall well-being through training and competition. It also strives to arrange various championships among different departments of the university and participate in inter-university sports events. Sports offered by the PEO include athletics (track and field), team games such as basketball, soccer, volleyball, and futsal, swimming, judo, and aerobic/yoga.
Cafeteria: Students have the opportunity to dine at the Student’s Cafeteria, at a very low cost.
IT & Library Facilities: Students have full access to the electronic services offered by the IT Services Faculty, the Library.
