Lincoln University, founded in 1878, is the smallest public university in New Zealand. Campus Life
Lincoln University has a number of campuses for the administration, residence and teaching of the university. Some of the campuses are currently under construction and soon going to open for domestic and international students.
Ivey Hall: Built in 1878, it is the oldest building of the university that is designed in the Jacobethan style. It is the main building on the campus for teaching, residence and administration. Since 1989, Ivey Hall has housed the George Forbes Memorial Library of the university.
The Laboratories: Initially, this campus was built as a McCaskill building which was further replaced as a School of Landscape Architecture Building in 2009.
Hudson Hall: It is the major residential on campus that is largely an administration building and accommodates around 184 students.
George Forbes Building: Opened in 1960, it is the first purpose-based library that houses around 10,000 books. Over the years the building was eventually expanded as Forbes Building and George Forbes Memorial Library.
Gillespie Hall: this hall is also known as Lincoln Union and Student Union has three buildings (Annex, Link and Union).
Burns Building: this building is built in a similar style and has lecture theaters and a computer center. It is also known as the Burns Building named after the past Principal Malcolm Burns in 1975.
Stewart Building: Opened in 1990, it has cutting-edge teaching aids and audiovisual capacity for New Zealand. It has two large lecture theaters that have seating for several hundred students.
Commerce Building: Built-in 1990, it was an Ivey Hall garden initially. Now it is the hall for seminars and lectures due to the rapid increase in Commerce students.
Mrs. O's Hall: This hall was built in 2011 and has several cafés and dining halls. It is named after Mrs. Joan O'Loughlin, a tea attendant and cleaner at the university much loved by the students.
Hostel and Facilities
The university has several fully-catered and fully furnished halls for residents. The halls also offer free unlimited WiFi, TV and social areas in every accommodation.
The Centennial Hall: It is located on the right of the university campus. The ground floor of the hall provides bathroom facilities and disability access. The rooms are spread over 2 floors that are laid in pods, each pod has 6 rooms.
Colombo Hall: It is the most social and relaxed hall of the university. The residence has a large communal kitchen area, TV room and lounge room.
Hudson Hall: It is the newest residence of the university. The rooms of the residence have king single beds, with a wardrobe, chair and desk.
Lowrie Hall: It is located alongside Colombo Hall. This hall is spread over three, four-story ‘towers’ that have a TV room, a large communal kitchen area and a lounge room.
Quarters Hall: It is also a new residence hall of the university that has two buildings with a kitchen, laundry and lounge facilities.
