Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo Visited the Biden Institute and Shared Benefits of Abroad Education

This week, Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo visited the Biden Institute and joined a Q&A session with students. The program is organised at the University of Delaware to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the university for its successful Study Abroad Program. Gina Raimondo shared that international students play a vital role in strengthening America's global competitiveness, creating a diverse work environment, enhancing countries' technological leadership and helping students in getting better opportunities after graduation. She shared her opinions on the needs of international students in these ways.

Strengthening Global Relations

Secretary Raimondo discussed her recent trip to China where she explored New York University’s campus in Shanghai. She experienced an amazing cultural exchange with American and Chinese students through working and learning together. She said that “ we are dealing with many global challenges such as climate change, food security, health security, energy security, the rise of authoritarianism, and sustainable development. So, we need programs that bring people together who belong to different nationalities. And admitting international students in our universities helps in bridging the divides between two countries.

Enhancing America’s Technological Leadership

The Secretary shared her views on addressing the need of bolstering America’s technological leadership especially in the semiconductor industry where the country needs skilled workers. She said that our country requires 300,000 engineers and 90,000 technical workers by 2030 for our technological development. She suggests students consider a job in the country's technological industry to address the lack of semiconductors manufactured in America.
