Italy Has Granted Temporary Residence of Additional 12 Months for Indian Students

Italy has allowed Indian students to stay for up to 12 months after completing their education at Italian universities, the two governments have announced.

A Union Cabinet which was chaired by PM Narendra Modi announced its ex-post facto approval of the proposal of the Ministry of External Affairs. On Wednesday, the authorities signed and ratified the Mobility Agreement and Migration between the Government of the Republic of India and the Italian Republic. 

Staying in Italy for an additional 12 months will help students gain initial professional experience in their field of study. Those Indian students, who hold a postgraduate degree or Ph.D. are now eligible for residence back in Italy after completion of their academic studies. 

Additionally, the country has also detailed provisions related to extracurricular and curricular internships and professional training that will allow Indian students to gain practical experiences. 

The government of Italy has reserved a quota of 5000, 6000 and 7000 non-seasonal Indian workers for the coming 2024 and 2025 under the current Flows Decree.
