Oxford International Reveals the Main Reason to Study Abroad

The number of Indian students planning to study abroad for higher education has exponentially increased in the past few years. Oxford International has revealed that cultural experiences,  better job options and higher pay scale are the top reasons among international students for choosing overseas education.

Data revealed in Oxford International’s inaugural edition of Oxford International’s SGMI (Student Global Mobility Index) shows that around 50% of Indian students chose to pursue higher education abroad due to better career prospects. 

Additionally, almost 42% of Indian students cited the main reason behind studying abroad as cultural experiences and 41% of students found overseas education a chance to develop language and personal skills. Whereas, around 35% of students find that they will get better opportunities for a well-paid career as a result of abroad education. 

Almost 38% of international students study higher education abroad to get a global perspective. Moreover, the report has observed that 42% of students believe that studying a specific subject abroad will enhance their job prospects in their field of interest. 

These are the main reasons behind the increasing craze among Indian students for abroad education. The UK, the USA, Australia, Canada and Germany have become the most popular study destinations for international students due to top-tier education facilities and career opportunities. 

The Oxford International report has also revealed the reasons why Indian students skip studying abroad. According to the reports, approximately 50% of Indian students stated the high ‘Cost of Living’ and 35% stated that ‘High tuition fees’ are the biggest barriers to studying overseas for higher education. 

About 14% find it more difficult to get admission at an abroad university than in their home country. Additionally, 30% of Indian students also considered the visa process and immigration a concern for studying abroad.
