Score Reports from Indian TOEFL Test Takers have Increased in These Countries

Study-abroad countries including Singapore, France, Australia and Sweden have witnessed a rapid rise in the volume of score reports of Indian TOEFL Test Takers. According to the Educational Testing Service (ETS), it is emerging as the new destination for study abroad aspirants. 

Since 2017 the United States and Canada have been the top two destinations for TOEFL test takers in India. Germany was spotted in third and the United Kingdom was in fourth position till 2019. These top countries have remained consistent for the last 5 to 6 years by Indian TOEFL test takers.

Apart from these top overseas education destinations, emerging countries for TOEFL test takers in India include Singapore, France, Australia and Sweden. A rapid increase in the volume of score reports of Indian TOEFL Test Taker Students is reported in these countries. This exciting news is shared by Sachin Jain, the Country Manager of ETS and South Asia. 

The conductors of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and Graduate Record Examination (GRE), Princeton-based ETS shared that this increase in test taker students reflects the shifting of Indian study abroad aspirants. 

Sachin Jain said that the percentage of Indian students taking TOEFL exams for higher education abroad has been increasing over the last few years while the percentage of people taking TOEFL tests for their immigration is declining.

Recently data was accessed by PTI that clarified that the percentage of test takers in India for licensure and pursuing higher education abroad, has increased from 5.53 % of the total test takers in 2021 to 7.77 % in 2022. At the same time, the percentage of Indian TOEFL test takers for immigration and employment has decreased from 8.19 percent to 7.22 percent.

So, there is a 53% increase in Indian TOEFL test takers in 2021 for countries like Singapore, France, Australia and Sweden. New Delhi, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Gurugram, Pune, Chennai, Ahmedabad and Kolkata are the top cities in India that have the highest number of TOEFL test takers.

This report has revealed that countries such as Singapore, France, Australia and Sweden have become the most preferred study-abroad destinations for Indian students.
